After six weeks of intense competition in the Quaker State® "Best in Class Challenge," a team from Maxwell High School of Technology came out on top as the grand prize winner! The Navigators team was among five finalists nationwide competing for the honor by restoring, tuning, and customizing a pre-owned car into a showroom-ready, creative representation of their school. Prizes included a $2,000 AutoZone gift card along, a custom advertorial in the February 2016 issue of Popular Mechanics, and the opportunity to auction off their restored vehicle with proceeds going back to the school. “The students spent countless hours working on the car during class and after school. For students that have only been in the automotive and collision class for one semester to be able to pull off a custom car build that wins best in the nation speaks volumes about their determination and hard work. I am proud to see something they worked so hard on get recognized on the national level,” said Max Chavez, auto shop team leader for Maxwell. “The automotive teachers are passionate about preparing students for competitions like this and helping them achieve their goals. To have a full write-up in Popular Mechanics magazine where we can share with the nation the positive impact Career and Technical Education (CTE) has on students is like a grand prize for me as an automotive teacher.”
