One of our most important civic responsibilities is participation in the electoral process. The next opportunity to vote for local, state, and federal offices will be Nov. 8. The deadline to register to vote in Gwinnett County (or make changes to an existing registration) is Oct. 11. (Go mobile for election info and registration with the GA Votes app, available for Apple and Android.) Citizens can register by mail, online, or in many public buildings, including Gwinnett schools and the J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center in Suwanee. On the Secretary of State’s (SOS) website, log on to MVP— My Voting Page— for voter registration status, mail-in application and ballot status, poll locations, and more. Early voting begins Oct. 17 at the county’s election headquarters in Lawrenceville, with additional advance voting opportunities at sites around the county on Sat., Oct. 29, and during the week of Oct. 31–Nov. 4. Voters who can’t make it to the polls between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Election Day also may apply for an absentee ballot. Call the Gwinnett County Office of Elections at (678) 226-7210 with questions. Voters also can access a consolidated sample ballot, which includes candidates for national, state, and county office, as well as the four proposed constitutional amendments.
