A celebration of “promising” writing here in Gwinnett will send 13 entries to the state’s Young Georgia Authors (YGA) writing contest this spring. In the district’s YGA competition this fall, grade-level winners were selected from among nearly 300 submitted entries from 83 schools across the county. Previously, the submissions had been selected as winners in local-school contests. The theme of “The Promise of Gwinnett” drew entries that explained how students show their potential, how their families encourage their dreams, why people strive to fulfill their promise, what promises public schools make to their students, and what they hope to do with their education. Student winners attend Harbins ES, Harris ES, Level Creek ES, Parsons ES, Partee ES, Rosebud ES, Jordan MS, Pinckneyville MS, Richards MS, Collins Hill HS, Discovery HS, and Lanier HS. A student from Cooper ES earned an honorable mention. Find more about the winning students in this news release, and read excerpts of their work on the GCPS website.
