Gwinnett students in selected high school courses in the academic core— language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies— will participate in the Georgia Milestones End of Course assessments between May 2 and May 18. These state assessments measure students’ mastery of the state-adopted content standards in the designated courses (9th Grade Literature and Composition, 11th Grade Literature and Composition, Algebra I, Geometry, Physical Science, Biology, U.S. History, and Economics). The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) will analyze assessment results and provide achievement scores to schools and families for each content area. Milestones scores provide information about how prepared a student is for the next course or for college and careers. Results also provide teachers with feedback about instructional practices and assist school and district leaders in identifying academic strengths and weaknesses for planning educational programs to support improvement. Online, families can find tips for supporting their student at test time and, if needed, ways to help a student manage test anxiety.
