The new school year is here and Café Gwinnett is ready to energize! Our Farm to School initiative puts locally grown foods on lunch trays, including green beans and corn on the cob. Locally grown offerings are guaranteed to be more nutritious and tastier when the ride from the farm to the table is kept short.
This month, Café patrons will enjoy house-made pickles from Georgia-grown cucumbers. Students will be able to try these local pickles and provide feedback. Other local produce on the menu this year? Watch for Georgia apples, red wheat flour, pumpkins, and strawberries.
While students have lots of fresh fruit and vegetables to choose from each day, they’ll also find some new entrees on the menu for 2016-17, including hand-pulled pork for BBQ sandwiches (a regional favorite from our Tennessee neighbors), 100% beef “Ball Park” hot dogs and hamburgers, and all-natural turkey breast for subs, wraps, and salads. And don’t forget our made-from-scratch signature coffee cake.
Unlike prices at the grocery store and local restaurants, school meal prices remain the same this school year: $1.50 for breakfast ($.30 reduced price), $2.25 for ES lunch and $2.50 for MS and HS lunch ($.40 reduced price). As always, school menus can be found online or download the Nutrislice menu app from Google Play or the App Store. Enjoy!
