The first day of school is an exciting time at any school, but there's something special about the very first day at a brand-new school! On Monday, Aug. 8, the faculty and staff at Baldwin ES and Coleman MS welcomed children to their new schools. Namesakes for the two schools— longtime educator Beauty Baldwin and Dr. Brooks Coleman, a state legislator and retired educator himself— were on hand for the school opening. Across the county, more than 171,000 students are in attendance in GCPS' 139 schools, with additional students expected to enroll in coming weeks. The district's back-to-school enrollment count will be finalized the day after Labor Day.
