During the summer, the school district and several GCPS departments got word that they’d been honored with a number of regional and national honors. We didn’t want you to miss all that good news while you were on vacation, so here are some of our summer pride points.
- 2016 Brightspace Awards for Excellence: GCPS was honored for its work to transform the classroom through the use of blended learning, both in and out of the classroom. The award celebrates inspiration and innovation in the delivery of a teaching and learning experience that is both unique and collaborative. And here in Gwinnett, teachers, students, and parents report that they see great advantage to digital learning. Brightspace is the integrated learning platform that GCPS uses for digital learning.
- Achievement of Excellence in Procurement Award: For the second year in a row, the National Procurement Institute recognized GCPS’ Purchasing and Property Management staff for innovation, professionalism, productivity, e-Procurement, and leadership in procurement. GCPS is one of only 10 governmental agencies in Georgia and one of only 25 educational institutions in the United States to receive the award.
- Using Career-Themed Academies to Transform Large High Schools Award: The district’s work, starting in 2013, to transform five Gwinnett high schools— Central Gwinnett, Lanier, Meadowcreek, Shiloh, and South Gwinnett— into college-and career-themed Academy schools earned kudos from the Southern Regional Education Board. With the addition of Berkmar HS and Discovery HS, GCPS now has seven Academy high schools.
- EMMY Awards: GCPS’ Broadcast and Distance Learning team was honored by the Southeast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (SE-NATAS) with three EMMY Awards. The honors recognize the team’s talent and creativity in creating original productions that support teaching and learning. GCPS won two awards for Q’s Story and one award for a story on the Cooper O’Brien Courage Award.
Watch for more good news in the coming weeks as we bring you up to speed with summertime news that may have slipped past you.
