Nearly 5,000 Gwinnett middle school students now have a better idea of what it takes to pursue a successful career in dozens of fields. At the district's 4th annual Career Connections Exhibition on Nov. 16, some 160 exhibitors from across the career spectrum shared “show and tell” interviews and activities with the students. Representatives from businesses, organizations, and agencies around Gwinnett and the metro Atlanta area provided insight into the type of work they do and how they prepared for their careers.
"It’s never to early for students to learn about potential career opportunities," says Jody Reeves, GCPS’ executive director of Academies and Career and Technical Education. "Success in high school and learning some type of transferable skill will enable our students to be college- and career-ready.”
The Career Connections event is designed to prepare our students for a smoother transition from high school to college and career. Participating students came from the 11 middle schools that feed into our seven College and Career Academy high schools: Berkmar, Central Gwinnett, Discovery, Lanier, Meadowcreek, Shiloh, and South Gwinnett.
