As the last bell rings for the 2016–17 school year, 562 veteran educators and support staff members marked their retirement from Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS). In total, our 2016–17 retirees have contributed a collective 13,518 years of their lives to education, and a total of 10,701 years to Gwinnett schoolchildren. In fact, 52% (291) of our retirees have worked their entire careers— in the classroom, office, cafeteria, bus, or shop— in this school system. Among this year’s retirees, 188 have 30 or more years of service in education and, of those, 22 have invested 40 or more years in education. Whatever their post-retirement plans, we bid a fond farewell to all of our retirees, and we extend our thanks for their service to Gwinnett County Public Schools.
