SchoolMessenger is a rapid notification system used to contact families in Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) via telephone messages, text messages, and email messages. The district will use the system to communicate information related to districtwide events, including key school dates and school closings due to inclement weather. Schools may use the system to communicate information related to school events as well as automated attendance messages. Parents and guardians have the ability to customize messaging preferences. They can do this by accessing SchoolMessenger through the Parent Portal or using the SchoolMessenger website or app. Learn more with these frequently asked questions. Watch for a reminder to “opt in” for text messages if you haven’t yet taken advantage of this convenient service.
Here are some important things to know about setting your message preferences for SchoolMessenger:
- You can update phone numbers and preferences in the Parent Portal at any time.
- Only cell phone numbers that are associated with a student in GCPS' student information system are eligible to receive texts.
- To receive texts, you must have a cell phone number listed and you must have opted in to the texting service.
To receive phone calls (another SchoolMessenger option), you must have a phone number (landline or cell) designated as the Primary Phone Number. Calls are made to designated primary numbers only.
