GCPS extends deadline for 2nd semester decision

Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) is extending the window for families to make a decision regarding their instructional preference for 2nd semester for their children. The new deadline will be 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 29. The Spring Instructional Preference Questionnaire is available in the Parent Portal. If a parent or guardian already has made a selection, changes can be made up to the deadline. The updated preference will be displayed the next school day. Please note that what a parent sees indicated in the Parent Portal as their decision will serve as confirmation of their selection. Students whose families do not update their preference on the portal will continue in their current learning option when students return to learning for the spring semester.

Parents who do not have a Parent Portal account may go to the school district website to find the Parent Portal registration form. To verify your identity, you must return the completed form in person or contact the local school to set up a virtual meeting. GCPS is holding a series of virtual job fairs for prospective substitute teachers during the months of November and December.

Substitutes work in our schools on daily or longer assignments, providing instruction through an in-person, digital, or hybrid format. You can choose the assignments you want to accept and determine your own schedule! Compensation ranges from $98 a day up to $120 per day for on-call subs.

GCPS Virtual Teacher Career Fair set for Nov. 17

Spread the word… Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) will host a Virtual Teacher Career Fair on Tuesday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon. The fair is by invitation only for those who hold certification in a range of fields. GCPS principals will be offering Letters of Intent for the 2020-21 school year for current openings. Prospective teachers can learn more about the event and register online.

Election Day on Nov. 3 is a student holiday!

Families are reminded that Tuesday, Nov. 3, is a holiday for Gwinnett students. If you are registered and haven’t voted yet, plan to vote at your regular polling place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Election Day. Find your poll location on the Secretary of State’s (SOS) website at MVP (My Voting Page). Georgia voters can expect a lengthy ballot—from the presidential contest to important state and local races, as well as GCPS’ E-SPLOST and a transit question in Gwinnett, some statewide measures, and contests in some municipalities. (Find a sample ballot online.) Registered voters are encouraged to learn more about both issues and candidates and to be certain to complete the entire ballot.

GCPS invites educators to Virtual Teacher Career Fair

On Tuesday, Nov. 17, Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) will host a Virtual Teacher Career Fair from 9 a.m. to noon. The fair is by invitation only for those who hold certification in a range of fields. Once an applicant requests to participate, using the link at gcpsjobs.org, GCPS’ recruitment team will review the applicant’s files and may extend an interview invitation based on file completion. Those selected for an interview will receive an email confirmation with additional instructions. GCPS principals will be offering Letters of Intent for the 2020-21 school year.  Check out frequently asked questions for Career Fair attendees, and learn more about teaching in Gwinnett. Registration to attend the fair will close on Nov. 12, or when all interview times have been filled. Please note that a request to participate does not guarantee an interview. Only those candidates who have received interview confirmations will be given access to the virtual career fair platform. Last day for in-person advance voting is Oct. 30

In Gwinnett, the last day for in-person advance voting for the General and Special Election is this Friday, Oct. 30. Find schedules for the nine advance voting locations around Gwinnett County and current wait times online. If you’re voting by absentee ballot, check out these FAQs to ensure that your ballot is completed correctly. This close to Election Day, officials recommend that you deposit your ballot at one of the official ballot drop boxes, which feature 24-hour surveillance and are available 24/7 through Nov. 3 at 7 p.m.

GCPS’ Transportation Department drives student success, safely transporting students to and from school each school day. Our bus drivers are well-trained and dedicated professionals charged with the safe delivery of students between home and school, driving the district's 1,900+ buses nearly 24 million miles each year.

We celebrate our Transportation staff and their focus on safety this week during state and national School Bus Safety Week and Georgia School Bus Driver Appreciation Day.

Our transportation professionals are committed to a safe ride for our students and participate in more than 120 hours of initial training and more than 20 hours throughout the school year. In addition, each driver performs an Annual Driver Proficiency Test (ADPT) on the driving range to ensure that he or she is proficient at driving their school bus. From the nuts and bolts of handling a bus in all kinds of weather and traffic situations to behavior management and safe evacuations and first aid, our drivers learn it all.
