This week, similar scenes played out in schools across Gwinnett county…
Campuses teemed with families attending open house events. The halls bustled with activity as students scanned class lists, found classrooms, and met new teachers with shy smiles or great displays of exuberance. Photo opps were everywhere and parents documented the moment (in between completing paperwork).
Little ones found their names taped to desks and above cubbies, often with sweet treats from their new teachers welcoming them to the classroom. The children checked out the reading corner and met the class pet while their parents made sure teachers had all the needed supplies.
Bigger kids roamed the halls to find their friends and to help younger siblings find their way around. “Seasoned” middle schoolers showed incoming students how to open the combination locks on their lockers while high school students greeted former teachers and checked out displays from clubs and student organizations.
In cafeterias and commons areas, families paid for school lunches, reviewed bus stop locations, and signed up for PTA while volunteers sold a range of spiritwear and supplies.
Yes, Gwinnett County Public Schools is ready for the 2019-20 school year!
