Oct. 2 is National Custodial Workers Recognition Day, and a great time to say “thank you” to the 1,100+ GCPS staff members who ensure that our schools provide a safe and clean learning environment for our students and a pleasant workplace for the district’s employees. A total of 137 head custodians, 22 assistant custodians, and nearly 950 part- and full-time custodians serve our schools and offices.
Our custodians are lifelong learners who regularly take part in professional development as the district adopts new equipment and implements new cleaning methods, such as dry carpet extraction and dry floor stripping. The results are a cleaner and healthier environment for students, staff, and visitors to our buildings.
“Over the past several years, our custodians have used these new technologies to boost productivity and improve the cleanliness of our schools,” says Stephen Hatcher, director of Environmental and Supply Services for GCPS. “We are especially proud of the consistent daily effort these individuals give to support our system of world-class schools.”
Take a moment today to thank a custodian for making sure our schools are world-class clean for kids.
