February is Black History Month and Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) is marking the occasion in schools around the county. School-to-school plans vary but you are sure to see decorated classrooms and hallways, a variety of events and celebrations, and students engaged in Black History Month-related activities that are in line with the school district’s Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum. Find a list of school events on the district website. Later this month, watch for a gallery of photos from school events.

Rising from the Rails – A Black History Month Art Exhibition
Sponsor: Southeastern Railway Museum in partnership with the United Ebony Society

Gwinnett County Black History Month Display and Reception
Sponsor: Gwinnett County Government in partnership with the United Ebony Society and other organizations
Location: Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center (1st floor) located at 75 Langley Drive in Lawrenceville
Cost: Free
Dates: Display through Feb. 28, 7 a.m.-7 p.m., with reception on Feb. 27, 5-8 p.m.
“Community Celebrates the History” – Black History Month Literature Display
Sponsor: Grayson Branch of Gwinnett County Public Library
