Karen Garner of Couch Middle School has been named the 2017 Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) Media Specialist of the Year. The award honors a K-12 library media specialist whose services have resulted in exemplary library media programs.
Garner was nominated by Couch Middle School principal Devon Williams. He says Garner is an invaluable member of the school’s staff, sharing, “One of Ms. Garner’s strengths is her ability to promote the media center and literacy through multiple outlets. Her willingness to connect to teachers to enhance instruction, whether the lesson needs media center support, research expertise, or technology flair enhances our ability to reach students and improves teaching and learning.”
Garner has developed a successful media program that is exemplary in the promotion of reading, information technology utilization, collaborative and innovative techniques, and community involvement. As the GCPS Media Specialist of the Year, Garner’s nomination will be submitted for consideration by the GLMA (Georgia Library Media Association) district committee for the regional award. The winner of that award will be announced in April.
