During School Nutrition Employee Week (May 1-5), we salute the important work of our 1,500+ School Nutrition Program (SNP) staff members.
The folks behind Café Gwinnett are "energizing our future" by making sure that our students and staff have tasty and healthy meals in a pleasant and friendly setting each day. Last school year, more than 179,000 meals were served daily in Gwinnett's 130 school cafeterias, a total of 20.9 million lunches and 11 million breakfasts.
Through our award-winning farm-to-school program, schoolchildren have a chance to experience locally grown fresh and nutritious produce. Appealing and innovative options as well as nutrition education are helping our students make healthy food choices and explore a variety of foods. And those meals are fueling growing bodies and brains so kids can learn!
Say thanks to your nutrition workers on School Lunch Hero Day (May 5). And check out a Ted Talk from Jarrett J. Krosoczka, author of the popular Lunch Lady graphic novel series, on why he believes lunch ladies (and gentlemen) are heroes at their schools.
