In 1994, Congress designated the federal observance of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as a national day of service. Dr. King once said, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” In that spirit, consider making a commitment to service on MLK Day— observed on Jan. 15 this year— as a way to strengthen the community, build bridges, address social problems, and be of service to others. Find service opportunities through the Corporation for National and Community Service and United Way and make the pledge to be of service to others throughout the year.
