On November 6, Gwinnett County citizens will decide a number of important races and issues during the General Election. Three of those decisions will have a direct impact on Gwinnett County Public Schools. Voters in Board districts II and IV will be electing new School Board representatives while all Gwinnett County voters will be asked to consider a General Obligation, or G.O., bond referendum for schools. The 350 million dollars in GO bonds that voters are being asked to approve would fund projects that would benefit every cluster and every school, and do so without increasing the tax rate for Gwinnett citizens. If approved, the G.O. bonds would provide funding to add needed classrooms, catch up on building maintenance and aesthetic improvements, update technology in schools throughout the district, and enhance school safety. In addition, the school district would be able to construct a new high school in the Mill Creek Cluster area, purchase school buses, and upgrade athletic facilities across the county.
