Between preparing breakfast and lunch for our students and staff each school day, adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a smile, GCPS’ 1500+ School Nutrition Program (SNP) staff members are true heroes.
We salute our nutrition workers on Friday, May 4— School Lunch Hero Day— to kick off School Nutrition Employee Week (May 7-11)!
The folks behind Café Gwinnett are "energizing our future" by making sure that our students and staff have tasty and healthy meals in a pleasant and friendly setting each day. Last school year, nearly 178,000 meals were served daily in Gwinnett's 132 school cafeterias, a total of 20.9 million lunches and almost 11 million breakfasts!
Our school nutrition program provides tasty, nutritious meals to students at an economical price. Gwinnett cafeterias serve many of the brands families use at home, including Tyson, General Mills, Kellogg’s, Land O’ Lakes, and many more. In addition, students are served a variety of locally grown fruits and vegetables through Gwinnett’s award-winning Farm-to-School program. Appealing and innovative options as well as nutrition education are helping our students make healthy food choices and explore a variety of foods. And those meals are fueling growing bodies and brains so kids can learn!
So, “lettuce celery-brate” our School Lunch Heroes!
