A half-dozen GCPS educators returned to their classrooms after Fall Break expecting business as usual and another great day of teaching and learning.
Instead, Tuesday, Oct. 15, was anything but “usual” as the six teachers learned— during surprise visits to their classrooms— that they were finalists for the honor of 2020 GCPS Teacher of the Year (TOTY)!
The six very surprised teachers learned of the honor as district staff and school leaders interrupted the class day for a few minutes of celebration with balloons, signs, and their excited students. A camera crew from GCPS TV caught the excitement on video.
Congratulations to our TOTY finalists who move to the final phase of competition:
Vivarine Argilagos of Lovin ES
Rebecca Carlisle of North Gwinnett HS
Anthony Dramis of Hull MS
Ellen Hill of Dyer ES
Amber Simmons of Brookwood HS
Brad Zickefoose of Radloff MS
At the upcoming TOTY celebration on Nov. 14, level winners (elementary, middle, and high) will be named and one of those three teachers will be named overall TOTY.
