Georgia lawmakers recently clarified the law to help keep children safe when they are loading and unloading school buses. This update is effective as of February of 2019.
Two-lane roadway: Vehicles traveling in both directions must stop.
Multi-lane roadway with paved turning lane: Vehicles traveling in both directions must stop.
Divided roadway with dirt, grass, or barrier median: Vehicles traveling behind the bus must stop. Vehicles traveling in the opposite direction must use caution.
The graphic below illustrates the law change for multi-lane roadways with a paved turning lane. The law now requires traffic in both directions to stop.
