Four high-flying GCPS seniors can call themselves Gwinnett 2019 STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) Student. An event celebrating some of Gwinnett County’s brightest students culminated with the naming of Gwinnett County’s STAR Students and Teachers in a four-way tie. All four students will advance to compete for the regional title. (A fifth student from Buford HS also was recognized and moves on in the competition.)
Here are the winning Gwinnett students and the educators they selected as STAR Teacher for their strong influence on the STAR Student’s academic career:
Thi Dao of Brookwood HS selected her 11th grade Language Arts teacher, Dr. Amber Simmons.
Aidan Donelan of Duluth HS tapped Jonathan Roy who taught him Engineering.
Alex Kim of Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology designated Laura Gray, his AP Computer Science teacher.
Shawn Im of Peachtree Ridge HS selected Ann Rodgers, his 10th grade Math teacher.
The Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Foundation and Partnership Gwinnett partnered to celebrate the STAR Student and Teacher honorees during this year’s STAR Student and Teacher Luncheon on March 8. The event recognizes all local school STAR students from each Gwinnett County high school (public and private), as well as the top student from Buford HS (Buford City Schools). Each local school STAR student is the senior in the top 10% of his or her class with the highest SAT score.
