During the week of May 4-8, Americans all over the nation will honor one of the world’s most essential professions when National Teacher Appreciation Week is observed. In this day of the COVID-19 pandemic, that word “essential” has taken on a particularly powerful meaning. With schools closed to in-person classes, families have had to step in to monitor and help their children learn at home. This new challenge has resulted in heightened awareness of how much love, commitment, and hard work our teachers pour into their students every day.
We hope our students, their families, and the community will help us celebrate our amazing teachers on social media!
We have a virtual #ThankAGCPSTeacher Week coming up. Here’s what we have planned:
Monday, May 4— Dress Like a Teacher Day: Dress up like a teacher and tell us why your favorite teacher is special!
Tuesday, May 5— #ThankaGCPSTeacher Day: Make a sign and take a picture or make a short video to thank your favorite teacher!
Wednesday, May 6— Sidewalk Chalk Thank You: Create sidewalk chalk art messages for your teacher! Take a photo of your sidewalk art and share it!
Thursday, May 7— “Thank you” is in the Mail!: Everyone likes to get mail and your teacher is no exception. Draw a picture or write a note or a letter to say “thank you” to your teacher. Mail your thank you to your school so your teacher can get it later. (Find your school’s mailing address here.)
Friday, May 8— Senior Thank You: Seniors, tell us about a special teacher who has made a positive difference during your high school years.
When you post to your social media account, remember to include our hashtag #ThankaGCPSTeacher!
Thanks for helping us show our teachers how much we ❤ GCPS teachers!
