Since Congress designated the federal observance of the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as a national day of service in 1994, members of our community and volunteers around the state and nation have committed to serve others on MLK Day.
Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, is the 26th anniversary of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy. Observed each year on the third Monday in January as “a day on, not a day off,” MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.
Online, find service opportunities through the Corporation for National and Community Service to commemorate Dr. King's legacy of service on MLK Day and throughout the year. (Register your own project to recruit volunteers.) Volunteer Gwinnett is another source for volunteer opportunities here in the county.

GCPS schools and offices are closed on MLK Day, Monday, Jan. 18.
