Our schools help prepare students for college and careers, helping to pave the way to success in the workplace for our graduates. A college or university education is one of the many options that allow young people to secure a bright future and a meaningful career. However, it’s not the only option.
Students in grades 11 and 12 and their families are invited to explore postsecondary options that offer an alternative to a traditional, four-year college experience. GCPS’ Apprenticeship and Technical Career Fair is set for Saturday, Feb. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Discovery HS, located at 1335 Old Norcross Rd. in Lawrenceville.
At the fair, participants can learn about apprenticeships, workforce training, and free and low-cost tuition programs that lead to high-demand, high-skill, and high-wage careers. Representatives from Gwinnett Technical College will be on hand with information about programs that can be completed in as little as four months up to two years, including training in air conditioning, nursing, cybersecurity, and more. Military recruiters also will be available to share opportunities in various service branches. And families can learn about apprenticeship programs that offer students full-time job placement at full-time pay with on-the-job training in fields as varied as construction, aviation maintenance, emergency services, plumbing, and electrical.
