Two staff members earned district recognition last week for their contributions to media services in Gwinnett schools. Lisa Doehling of Freeman's Mill ES was honored as GCPS’ 2017 Media Clerk of the Year. Ms. Doehling was nominated for this honor by Patti Woschitz, the school’s media specialist, who cited her willingness to go above and beyond her duties to help every patron. Parkview HS Principal David T. Smith is the recipient of the 2017 GCPS School Library Advocate Award which honors administrators who support the operation of an effective library program and advance the role of the media center as an essential part of the school’s educational program. Media Specialist Lisa Newberry noted that Mr. Smith has supported numerous special events to encourage reading and provided funds for instructional resources, technology, and mobile furniture for the school’s media center. As the GCPS Media Clerk of the Year, Ms. Doehling will represent the district in the Library Journal’s Paralibrarian of the Year recognition program. Mr. Smith will be nominated by the district for the Distinguished School Administrators Award sponsored by the American Association of School Librarians.
