GCPS can boast of several past and current Olympians… competing in the pool, at the track, and on the field. We’re also excited to report medal news from the recent Junior Olympics in Houston, where a group of Norcross Cluster students earned gold (and silver and bronze) medals in Sport Stacking events. If you haven’t heard TV sports announcers explain the rules of Sport Stacking, here’s the quick guide: Competitors “upstack” and “downstack” 12 specially designed cups in a pattern as quickly as possible. Why stack? This fitness-based sport takes agility, concentration, and quickness, and helps improve hand-eye coordination, sportsmanship, and cooperation. Congratulations to Nicholas of Peachtree ES (four golds, top 10-year-old male), Bryan of Simpson ES (two silver, one bronze), Matthew of Pinckneyville MS (one silver), and Jonathan of Peachtree ES (one bronze) for their award-winning Olympic appearance!
