Our fingers are crossed that icy roads, snow, and bitter cold temperatures will pass us by this winter, but it’s good to be prepared for whatever the forecast may hold. Now is the time to brush up on school system procedures for those times when weather conditions have an impact on the school day.
If bad weather causes school to be cancelled or dismissed early, public announcements will be made on GCPS TV, on the school system’s website, on Twitter and Facebook, through School Messenger calls and optional texts, and via metro-Atlanta radio and television stations. Full-day cancellations usually are announced by 6 a.m.
The key factor in all decisions about whether or not to hold school is the safety of students and staff.
Remember, GCPS announces only school closing information. The school system does not issue an announcement when school will be in session as scheduled.
