Matthew McDaniel, an Archer HS student, was named GCPS’ 2017 CTE Student of the Year for the county at a banquet March 22.
Attend upcoming open house events
High school students interested in exploring careers through hands-on learning can check out two specialized career and technical education programs at upcoming events. Online registration for the Grayson HS Technical Education Program is open, with the Winter Open House set for Jan. 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. (Students can apply from any GCPS computer, and must be in the GCPS network to apply.) An Open House for Maxwell HS of Technology is scheduled for Feb. 2 between 5 and 7 p.m. at the school. Online registration is open.

Learn more about college, careers at Grayson's tech ed open house
GCPS students, especially sophomores and juniors, are invited to experience the exciting courses that will be offered through the Grayson HS Technical Education Program in 2017-18. The upcoming Open House—set for Thursday, Oct. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m.-- will feature live demonstrations and displays of student work. Students can visit classrooms, meet teachers, speak with current students, and tour the Grayson Technical Building!
Attending the event is recommended for students so they can learn about the programs before registration begins in early spring semester, and work with their counselors now to ensure that their schedule will accommodate a Grayson Technical Program. During registration, programs are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
At the GHSTEP Open House, students also can attend a min-College Fair where more than 20 college representatives will answer questions about admissions, financial aid, and Move On When Ready options.

Deadline nears for CTE resource feedback
The community has an opportunity to review and give feedback on proposed curriculum resources for high school career and technical education courses. The public review of the proposed print and digital resources will be held at the district’s Instructional Support Center through Oct. 6. Look for dates and times for the review on the GCPS website.
