GCPS accepting applications for GEMS Oversight Committee

Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) is inviting parents, community members, and school district employees to apply for the GEMS Oversight Committee, a group of community and school system representatives charged with the annual review of the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum. The next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 2, 2017. After the review, the committee recommends revisions and additions to CEO/Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks for adoption by the Gwinnett County Board of Education.

Committee members serve three-year terms. Completed applications should be returned by Aug. 25, 2017, to the attention of Jadd Jarusinski, director of Instructional Resources and Support, at the J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center, located at 437 Old Peachtree Rd. NW in Suwanee. The downloadable application can be found on the GCPS website. On the GCPS Home Page select "GEMS Application" from the I Want To... Apply For... drop down menu.

JA Discovery Center needs volunteers on March 9

Have you ever paid a bill or had a job?  No matter your profession, your life experiences qualify you to be a successful volunteer at the Junior Achievement (JA) Discovery Center at Gwinnett!

Discovery Center has immediate openings for volunteers this week! Support your community and GCPS middle school students as they participate in an authentic, relevant, and experiential simulation on Thursday, March 9.

Volunteers in JA BizTown encourage students to communicate, collaborate with one another, think critically, and get creative as they interact within a simulated economy and take on the role of employee, citizen, and consumer. Volunteers receive training (and a Chik-fil-A lunch) during their shift, which typically runs 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Register for testing on Concussion Baseline Day

Hurry and register for the 3rd annual Concussion Baseline Day, set for Feb. 25, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at several high schools, with additional locations and times around the county. At the free event, participants will learn about concussions and baselines, complete the baseline testing, and finish with an informative Q&A session. Appointments for testing are still available.
