One of our most important civic responsibilities is participation in the electoral process. Georgia’s General Primary and the Nonpartisan General Election is set for May 24. The deadline to register to vote in Gwinnett County (or make changes to an existing registration) is Monday, April 25.
Effective with this election cycle, Gwinnett School Board seats will be decided in the nonpartisan election. This year, the Board representatives for District 2 and District 4 will be determined in the May election (or June 21 runoff), and the winners will begin their four-year terms on Jan. 1, 2023.
Citizens can register to vote by mail, online, or in many public buildings, including Gwinnett schools and the J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center in Suwanee. On the Secretary of State’s (SOS) website, log on to MVP—My Voter Page—for voter registration status, mail-in application and ballot status, poll locations, and more. (Note that visitors now must complete a Captcha security screen to access the SOS website.) In Gwinnett, advance voting runs May 2 to May 20, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters who can’t make it to the polls between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Election Day also may apply for an absentee ballot. The deadline to receive absentee ballot applications is 11 days prior to the Election Date which is May 13.Absentee voters may mail their ballot or drop off the ballot at a designated drop box. In a change from previous years, drop boxes now are located inside six designated advance voting locations and are only available during advance voting days and hours. Call the Gwinnett County Office of Elections at (678) 226-7210 with questions.
