Students invited to apply for state advisory council
Middle and high school students interested in serving as an advisor to State School Superintendent Richard Woods have until Sept. 1 to submit an application for a spot on the 2018-19 Student Advisory Council. Selected students will meet with Superintendent Woods to discuss the impact of state policies in the classroom and other issues related to education during council meetings at the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) offices in Atlanta. Past topics discussed by the advisory council include the school dropout rate, student leadership, communication/messaging, the Georgia graduation rule, testing, school climate, and career, technical, and agricultural education. In addition, council members will serve as the Superintendent’s ambassadors to their respective schools, and participate in community service projects to benefit Georgia students and schools.
Middle school advisors will meet Oct. 10, Nov. 28, Feb. 5, and May 13, and the high school council will meet Oct. 11, Nov. 29, Feb. 6, and May 14. Applications should be emailed to students@doe.k12.ga.us by the 5 p.m. deadline on Sept. 1. Selected students will be notified via email, and names will be posted on the GaDOE website on Sept. 10 at 10 a.m.
