Don’t forget… Dec. 6 is the deadline for members of the Class of 2020 to apply for scholarships awarded through the GCPS Foundation Fund. Find the 2020 GCPS Foundation Scholarship Catalog online. Scholarships range in value from $500 to $2,000 and most are one-time awards. The Foundation will announce scholarship recipients in May.
Charter school and other GCPS programs announce registration plans for 2020–21 year
The school district’s charter school and a number of other special school programs have scheduled information sessions and registration dates for students interested in attending one of the schools in the 2020–21 school year.

Nominate innovative media specialist for 2020 honor
Each year, the Gwinnett County Public Schools recognizes a school media specialist whose service has resulted in an exemplary media program. Does your student love visits to the media center? Have your participated in fun and engaging literacy activities at your child's school? If you know an innovative and enthusiastic media specialist who plans collaboratively, promotes literacy, and integrates technology, please nominate him or her for GCPS Media Specialist of the Year. Just a reminder… School’s out during Thanksgiving Break and that’s a great time to work on college and scholarship essays and applications. Dec. 6 is the deadline for members of the Class of 2020 to apply for scholarships awarded through the GCPS Foundation Fund. Annually, the Foundation awards thousands of dollars in scholarships to GCPS seniors, funded through the support of local businesses and organizations and contributions from generous staff and community members. Last year, more than 130 graduating seniors earned $142,000 in district and school-specific scholarships administered through the Foundation. Find the 2020 GCPS Foundation Scholarship Catalog online. Storytelling (and capturing those special stories) can help you preserve family history, but they also give us an opportunity to gather the voices and wisdom of our elders and give the gift of listening and of being heard.
Make season brighter for families in need with donation to mentoring program’s service project
During the holiday season, you can help students served in the Community-Based Mentoring Program (CBMP) to make a difference in our community by donating items for families in need!
Students in the Hispanic Mentoring Priority will participate in their first community service project together during an upcoming Saturday Life Lesson event on Dec. 7. Mentees will fill empty shoeboxes with donated goodies and wrap the boxes before delivering them to a Gwinnett county non-profit that supports families in our community.
Please drop off your “smaller than a shoebox” donations at the Community-Based Mentoring Program office, located at 1229 Northbrook Parkway, Suite.B, in Suwanee, by Sunday, Dec. 1.

holiday wrapping paper
small-sized toiletries, such as body lotions and body wash
loofah sponges
hair brushes, combs, and compact mirrors
coloring books and pencils
nail polish and make-up
hats, scarves, and gloves

Family tradition continues in award-winning theater programs
It was a “friendly civil war” when theater troupes from two Gwinnett high schools— Brookwood HS and Mill Creek HS— squared off in the GHSA One-Act Play finals to determine the state’s top high school theater troupe.

Last Thursday evening, all local school Teachers of the Year were celebrated for their exceptional dedication to their professions. Among the six finalists, level TOTY winners were announced for Elementary, Middle, and High School. Finalist Rebecca Carlisle from North Gwinnett High School was recognized as our 2020 Gwinnett County Teacher of the Year.

Rebecca Carlisle, an AP World History teacher at North Gwinnett HS, was named GCPS’ top teacher. Vivarine Argilagos, a 1st grade teacher at Lovin ES, is this year’s Elementary School Teacher of the Year. Brad Zickefoose, who teaches 6th grade science at Radloff MS, is the system’s TOTY at the middle school level.
