Nominate innovative media specialist for honor
Each year, the Gwinnett County Public Schools recognizes a school media specialist whose service has resulted in an exemplary media program. Does your student love visits to the media center? Have your participated in fun and engaging literacy activities at your child's school? If you know an innovative and enthusiastic media specialist who plans collaboratively, promotes literacy, and integrates technology, please nominate him or her for GCPS Media Specialist of the Year. Email nominations by Friday, Jan. 27, to Cindy Weaver (Cindy_Weaver@gwinnett.k12.ga.us) in Media Services and Technology Training.
Branch Out! To get the most of library resources
Branch Out!— a partnership between GCPS and the county library system— is available for all GCPS students. With Branch Out!, a student's school ID doubles as a library card, giving access to the county's extensive collection of digital and print resources for students who opt into the program. Even better, overdue library fines are a thing of the past for Branch Out participants. Students who registered for Branch Out! at the beginning of the school year already have access, but it's not too late to take advantage of the program. Just fill out the online registration form and return it to your student's school. To access library resources, participating students need their GCPS ID number and a PIN (preset for birth month and day as MMDD). Students may change their PIN anytime via the GCPL website or by calling or visiting any library branch.

Graves students enjoy stories by the 'campfire' and book-themed pumpkins
A "crackling" fire and a tent under the "stars" bring the outdoors inside the media center at Graves Elementary School, where children have been enjoying read-aloud favorites.
September is Library Card Sign Up Month!
Like Snoopy, reading is cool. Of course, your child has access to the media center at school, but your neighborhood library also is a great resource for the whole family. Apply for a library card online, or visit a Gwinnett County Public Library branch to get your card (and a card for your child) and check out resources for making the library a regular stop for your family. Out-of-county staff members qualify for a free card with a GCPS ID. Library patrons also can borrow a free pass to enjoy nearby arts, culture, and parks, or check out an energy-efficiency test kit.
