Now hiring: Crossing guards for 2019-20 school year
Making sure our students are learning in a safe and secure setting extends to arrival at the school. In several school locations, crossing guards are on duty at the start and end of the school day to aid students as they cross the street from neighborhood sidewalks.
Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) is hiring crossing guards for the 2019-20 school year. This part-time position is part of the Gwinnett County Schools Police. Qualified applicants must display a positive and professional manner and demonstrate accountability for actions and decisions.

Runners ‘book it’ for literacy, raise $13K+ for GCPS Book Mobiles
A beautiful Saturday morning earlier this month brought together nearly 400 runners, Clifford the Big Red Dog, and Dog Man from Dav Pilkey’s popular graphic novels to raise money for GCPS’ book mobiles.

GCPS accepting applications for GEMS Oversight Committee
Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) is inviting parents, community members, and school district employees to apply for the GEMS Oversight Committee, a group of community and school system representatives charged with the annual review of the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum. The next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 7, 2019. After the review, the committee recommends revisions and additions to CEO/Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks for adoption by the Gwinnett County Board of Education. Committee members serve three-year terms. Completed applications should be returned by Aug. 23, 2019, to the attention of Jadd Jarusinski, director of Instructional Resources and Support, at the J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center, located at 437 Old Peachtree Rd. NW in Suwanee. The downloadable application can be found on the GCPS website. Registration for HS summer classes continues
Summer learning opportunities are available for a fee for high school students through Gwinnett Online Campus (register by June 2) and face-to-face classes at three locations (register by June 3). Annual Child Find meeting on May 10 aids families with children with disabilities
Each year, GCPS conducts a meeting for the families of children with disabilities (birth to age 21) currently not served by GCPS who may benefit from support services available through the school system's Department of Special Education and Psychological Services. This year, the Child Find meeting is scheduled for Friday, May 10, from 1 to 3 p.m., in the Central Gwinnett Room (2.111) in Building 200 of the J. Alvin Wilbanks Instructional Support Center, located at 437 Old Peachtree Road NW in Suwanee. Families unable to attend are encouraged to contact GCPS with their questions about services for students with disabilities. Make plans for HS summer classes
For high school students who need to catch up or want to get ahead, GCPS summer classes can be a great way to learn for credit. Students, including rising 9th graders, have three options:
Face-to-face summer classes (June 10–July 2)— Online registration is open through June 3, or students may register in person from 4 to 7 p.m. on June 3 at Norcross HS. Face-to-face classes will be offered at Dacula HS, Norcross HS, and Shiloh HS. Find course offerings and frequently asked questions on the face-to-face summer school website.
Online summer classes (June 10–July 2)— Registration for online classes offered through Gwinnett Online Campus (GOC) is open through June 2. Find online course offerings and frequently asked questions, along with registration information on the GOC website. Note: For students taking PE, a fitness pre-test is required. Students may choose to self-test or attend the optional orientation and on-campus fitness pre-test on June 6 at GOC.
Community Schools— Located at GCPS high schools, many of these programs offer Health and/or Personal Fitness (PE) during the summer.
Rising 9th graders may take Health and/or PE. Both courses are required for graduation. These courses are available at Norcross HS (face-to-face), Gwinnett Online Campus (online), and Community Schools (face-to-face). Note that spots for these classes are limited so register early to ensure a space.

Future teachers invited to Teacher Signing Day on May 7
GCPS is hosting an inspirational and fun event for all middle and high school students interested in a teaching career.
May 9 is deadline to register for Dual Language Immersion programs
May 9 at 3 p.m. is the deadline for rising kindergartners to register for Gwinnett’s Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program— an opportunity for elementary students to develop proficiency in another language while learning the curriculum. Next school year, DLI will be offered at nine GCPS schools— Spanish at Annistown, Baldwin, Bethesda, Camp Creek, Ivy Creek, Level Creek, and Meadowcreek elementary schools; French at Trip ES; and, new for 2019-20, Korean at Parsons ES. The schools will accept transfers if available slots are not filled by students in the school zone. Out-of-zone families must provide transportation. (Remember, in addition to completing DLI registration paperwork, families must register for kindergarten at the school to which their child is zoned.)
