Apply for state superintendent’s Student Advisory Council
State School Superintendent Richard Woods is seeking public school students in grades 10-12 to serve on his 2021-22 Student Advisory Council. Council members will meet with Superintendent Woods to discuss the impact of state policies in the classroom, along with other issues related to education, and will serve as the Superintendent’s ambassadors to their respective schools. Students must apply by Sept. 1 at 5 p.m. Council members will be announced Sept. 17. The first meeting will be held Oct. 21 (in-person), with additional meetings set for early December (virtual), Jan. 25 (in-person), and March 10 (in-person). Applicants must be enrolled in a Georgia public high school for either virtual or in-person instruction.

GaDOE invites Georgians to share feedback on proposed K-12 math standards
The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) has posted proposed K-12 Mathematics Standards for a 30-day public comment period. If approved, the standards will be implemented in the 2022-23 school year, following a year of teacher training. The State Board of Education is scheduled to vote on adoption of the standards at its August meeting. Board selects Dr. Calvin Watts as finalist for GCPS superintendent
On July 15, the members of the Gwinnett County Board of Education voted 5-0 to approve Dr. Calvin Watts—a former GCPS school leader and assistant superintendent—as its sole finalist for superintendent.

Becoming a GCPS parapro just got a little sweeter! Qualifying new employees hired on or after June 7 will be paid a $1,500 incentive for serving one full school year (2021-22) as a special education paraprofessional in Gwinnett County Public Schools. New parapros will receive the incentive (less applicable withholdings and deductions) in two parts—
$750 paid 30 days after the start of the 2021-22 School Year
$750 paid in the December 2021 paycheck
Note that new parapros who earn the incentive may be obligated to repay the incentive to GCPS if they are terminated for cause or resign without an approved reason prior to the one-year anniversary of the start date.
Interested applicants should complete the online application then register for a virtual interview using this registration link. GCPS’ recruitment team will review the applicant’s files and may extend an interview invitation based on file completion. Those selected for an interview will receive an email confirmation. Registration to attend the fair will close when all interview times have been filled. Please note that a request to participate does not guarantee an interview.
Parapros hired in GCPS must meet one of the following criteria:
Earned an associate’s degree or higher (any major, coursework completed with a grade of C or higher) OR
Completed two or more years of college coursework (at least 60 semester hours completed with a grade of C or higher) OR
Hold a high school diploma/GED AND pass the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment (Register online for the GACE assessment.)

Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) is hiring bus drivers!
Our drivers enjoy competitive wages—from $17.63 to $24.98 per hour and a guarantee of six hours for combined morning and afternoon routes—as well as excellent benefits, paid training, and a great work schedule. They work the student calendar year and enjoy the benefit of time off on student holidays and summer vacation! Prospective drivers don’t need to hold a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to apply to become a school bus driver. Our Transportation Department trains and supports new drivers through the process! New drivers are fully paid throughout our award-winning and professional CDL training program.
Applicants must be 21 or older, have a good driving record, and have a high school diploma or GED.
If you are interested in learning more about opportunities with the school district’s Transportation team, make plans to attend one of these upcoming events. Transportation staff will be available to answer any questions and assist with the application process.

GCPS accepting applications for GEMS Oversight Committee
Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) is inviting parents, community members, and school district employees to apply for the GEMS Oversight Committee, a group of community and school system representatives charged with the annual review of the Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) curriculum. The next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 28, 2021. After the review, the committee recommends revisions and additions to the superintendent for adoption by the Gwinnett County Board of Education. Committee members serve three-year terms. Those interested in serving should complete the online application no later than Aug. 13.
GCPS adjusts MS hours for Summer Enrichment + Acceleration (SEA) program
